When my son was diagnosed with autism, I did what so many mums do.
I focused on what needed to be done.
Appointments.
Therapies.
Paperwork.
School meetings.
Daily routines.
There was always something that needed my attention, and I became responsible for keeping everything moving. From the outside, we were managing. But behind the scenes, my mind never really switched off.
Even during the quieter moments, I was planning ahead, anticipating challenges, and making sure everyone else was okay.
Over time, I realised there wasn't much space left for me.
There was support for my child. As there should be.
But very little support existed for the mothers carrying everything behind the scenes.
Most conversations focused on what I needed to do. Very few focused on how I was actually doing.
I wasn't looking for more information.
I already had plenty of that.
What I wanted was somewhere I didn't have to explain the basics before being understood.
Not as another course.
Not as another program.
Not as another place telling mothers how to parent.
I created ASD Mum Club to become a steady place women could return to whenever life felt heavy.
A place to pause.
To breathe.
To reconnect with themselves.
Some days that looks like joining a conversation.
Other days it means quietly listening.
Sometimes it's simply knowing you're surrounded by people who understand your life without explanation.
You don't have to carry everything alone.
A mother should not have to reach breaking point before she deserves support.
So much of the conversation around autism focuses on children.
But when mothers feel supported, calmer, and more grounded, the effects ripple through the entire family.
Supporting mums isn't separate from supporting children.
It's part of supporting the whole family.
ASD Mum Club isn't about fixing you.
It isn't about telling you what you should be doing.
Honest conversations
Emotional support
Gentle encouragement
A community that understands
Space to rest without guilt
Because sometimes the most powerful thing isn't more advice.
It's finally feeling understood.
